For kids learning english age 5

 https://breakingnewsenglish.com/

Mr Mark recommended a famous website in Korea

Monday, April 7, 2025

Kid wants to have a youtube page

Make her put together a business plan/presentation.

Target market?
Type of content?
General purpose?
Goals? Short term & long term.
How often will she post?
When will she film & edit?
Startup costs?
Expected revenue?
Marketing strategy?
If she can pull all of that together… maybe consider it with guidelines/boundaries.
We allowed my daughter to have one for her animations…. And we said no face or real names used. We also had login access to monitor any messages or comments. We had veto power over content, as well. She lost interest pretty quick. It’s a lot more work than kids realize.

A brief about Montessori and Waldorf schools

 Montessori schools

Montessori provides a unique alternative to mainstream schooling. It has a student-centred approach to learning, with several progressive practices.

Mixed-age classrooms

In Montessori schools, there are mixed-age classrooms. There are often 3-year age groupings in preschool and elementary school. This can include toddler classes from birth to age 3, primary (or casa) classes for ages 3-6, and elementary classes for ages 6-9 and 9-12.

Decentralized learning

In Montessori schools, students tend to move around class, work on their own tasks, and interact and work with peers. Teachers almost never provide lectures to the whole class. Instead, they observe, guide, and sometimes give brief lessons to students (either one-on-one or in small groups).

Freedom and flexibility

Students have a lot of freedom to choose tasks, projects, and learning materials. While teachers provide guidance, students can often choose work their sparks their interest and satisfies their curiosity.

Concrete learning

Kids work with a lot of hands-on material, such as manipulatives, blocks, tiles, and pink towers. Concrete learning is a major focus, especially in preschool and elementary school. In middle and high school, there’s a movement to more abstract learning.

Minimal pretend play

Pretend play is rarely encouraged, even in preschool. Task-oriented work is favoured over imaginative play. There are no dolls, dollhouses, pretend kitchens or houses, or dress-up clothes in class. Instead, there are real kitchens, real (child-sized) furniture, work tools, food, cooking utensils, and other practical objects for kids to work with.

Uninterrupted work time

Students are given at least one full uninterrupted work period of around three hours a day. Normally, this starts in elementary school. Uninterrupted work periods allow kids to pursue their chosen work for long periods of time, without distractions.

Character education

While academics are important, this is only part of the focus. Montessori schools aim to educate the whole child: their character, sense of self, and values. For instance, students learn to take care of themselves, each other, and their environment.

Minimal technology

Very little, if any, modern-day technology is used in most Montessori schools. This is especially true in the early years. Computers, tablets, whiteboards, TVs, and similar devices are rarely used in class.

Waldorf schools

The Waldorf school philosophy is student-centred. Like Montessori schools, Waldorf schools have many features that distinguish them from mainstream schools.

Individualized curriculum

In Waldorf schools, students aren’t forced into a one-size-fits-all curriculum. They have the freedom to work in a broad range of areas and pursue their own interests.

Whole child education

Waldorf doesn't just focus on core academics. The aim is to educate the whole child: “head, heart, and hands.” Waldorf teachers develop children’s aptitudes for thinking, feeling, and acting.

Delayed formal academics

Core academics starts later than in most mainstream schools. Kids aren’t taught core subjects, such as math, science, and reading, until at least grade 1.

Focus on creativity and the arts

Art and music are infused throughout the curriculum. Most subjects are taught through artistic media, including stories, visual arts, dance, music, and crafts.

Imaginative learning

Pretend and imaginative play is encouraged in preschool and kindergarten. There are lots of toys, art materials, and games in the classroom. Kids also spend lots of time playing outdoors. This is thought to promote imaginative learning and the development of social skills.

Practical learning

Up to grade 3, students do lots concrete and experiential learning. They take part in different practical tasks, like cooking, cleaning, and gardening. They also learn woodwork, handwork, and sewing.

Focus on nature

Students are given lots of natural materials. And environmental and outdoor education are a big focus. Kids learn to appreciate and value nature, in its full splendour.

Minimal technology

Most Waldorf schools don’t use technology such as TVs, computers, and tablets. Too much screen time, it’s thought, can stunt physical growth and decrease social interaction. This can interfere with social and cognitive Main differences between Montessori and Waldorf schools

Academics: Montessori schools focus more on core academics, at least in preschool. Waldorf schools normally don’t introduce core academics, at least formally, until grade 1 or 2.

Work and play: Montessori schools favour work over play. Even in preschool, Montessori educators tend to discourage pretend play (or at least not encourage it). Waldorf schools, meanwhile, make pretend play and imaginative activities a major focus, especially in preschool.

The arts: Waldorf schools infuse art and music throughout the curriculum. Music, drama, dancing, the visual arts, and other artistic media, are woven into many lessons. Many Montessori schools, on the other hand, focus less on the arts, music, and imaginative activities.

Nature: Both Waldorf and Montessori schools educate kids about nature and have outdoor activities. Waldorf schools focus more on this, though

Introducing solids - 6 months baby

WHEN TO START SOLIDS
1. Start when child is developmentally ready. Till then offer only bm /fm.
Criteria for solid readiness:
Child can sit with support and hold head steady
- Has lost tongue thrust: does not push out food
2. Most health authorities (eg WHO, NHS) recommend waiting till the completion of 6 months (180 days) before starting solids.
3. Some signs that can be mistaken for a child being ready for solid foods:
- chewing fists
- waking in the night when they have previously slept through
- wanting extra milk feeds
4. Till 1 year bm/fm is the main source of nutrition and solids are complimentary
HOW TO OFFER SOLIDS
5. Child should be seated in upright position for feeding - Can be in your lap or booster chair or high chair. Lying down or in inclined position increase the risk of choking and not recommended #twupright
FREQUENCY
6. At 6 months, start with one meal.
- Increase meals slowly to offer 2-3 meals by 8m.
- By 1 year, child should be offered 3 meals + 1 or 2 snacks
7. Offer solids around 30-45 min after breastfeeding or 1-1.5 hours after formula feed. A very hungry child expects feed and might reject solids. This ensures that BM/FF feeds are not dropped in favour of solids. #twresponsivefeeding
WHAT TO OFFER
8. Infant food should be rich in micronutrients like iron and zinc. Also include fat which is required for brain development. #twiron
9. Can start with steamed veggies, porridges, grains, lentils. Also check #twvegfirstweaning.
10. Food should be thick enough to not fall off the spoon #twsolidconsistency. Runny food lacks enough calories and additionally risks displacing the much more nutritious BM/FF.
11. Pureeing is not mandatory. Though babies do not have teeth, their gums are strong enough to bite. It's fine to start with lightly mashed food or textured food. #twnoteeth
12. There is no need to add BM or formula to food. We recommend keeping food and feeds separate.
13. Gradually move on to family food minus salt, sugar and less spices by 7-8 months #twnosaltsugar #twnosalt #twnosugar #twfamilypot
14. Allow baby to touch and explore the food being fed from day 1. It could be a preloaded spoon of puree or finger food.
15. Babies are not habituated to eating added salt/sugar unless exposed, so do not worry about food being tasteless or bland. Use other spices to compensate. All spices apart from salt/sugar can be used, please use discretion with chilly and such. Avoid poppy seeds or nutmeg in large amounts #twspicelist
16. Do not always offer alternatives to food, but provide one safe option if child seems to be picky about food #twdor
17. Don't give animal milk as a drink, but using dairy products in food is fine in limitations #twdairy #twiron
ALLERGIES
19. Common allergens
- dairy (milk products)
- egg
- soya
- nuts
- some seafood
20. Latest allergy recommendations suggest introducing all allergens early (by 8m) . Delaying allergens worsens allergies. Offering the same food for 3 days (or 5 days) is not required as per the latest recommendations. Be slow and careful with known allergens, otherwise new food can be offered everyday. Offer new food in the early part of the day to check reactions #twnuts #twallergies
WHAT NOT TO OFFER
21. It's not recommended to give:
- Honey
- Choking hazards (see #twchokinghazard)
- Any form of sugar (sugar, jaggery, palm sugar, palm jaggery) #twnosugar
- Any form of salt #twnosalt
- Liquid foods (juices, soups, dal water, rice water, runny purees and porridges) – they displace bm and can cause malnutrition risk #twsolidconsistency
- processed baby foods like cerelac and biscuits #twprocessedfood
- do not offer food lying down #twupright
HOW MUCH TO OFFER
22. Baby decides the quantity. Look for subtle signs of rejection like turning head, pursing lips #twresponsivefeeding
23. Do not resort to distractions or force baby to eat more #tw_distraction_feeding
WATER
24. Limit water intake to few sips after meals. Can be offered with spoon, straw cup or open cup. Hard/soft spout cups are not recommended for prolonged use #twhydration #twcups

Paisa wasool toys for 0-1 year old baby - Must have!!!

Children toys are costlier than you expect. With lot of research, following mom bloggers/ amazon reviews I bought some toys keeping in mind not to burn a hole in my pocket.

Sharing some toys which my 1 year old utlitised it to the max as possible. She is 20 months old and still loving it.

The very first toy I bought for her was stacking cups.

1.  Stacking cups : I bought this for 153/- when she was around 6 months old. From that day till this date, she plays it.  Around 6 months she used to love destroying the built stack. Around 1 year she stopped playing, but now again she hides stuff in the cups, and picks one by one to find where is the hidden object, stacks it.

I will recommend to buy cubic ones stacking cup as they help is forming firmer grip for the kid.

2.  Nesting eggs : Bought this for 236/-. Around 8 months old, She used to open the nested eggs and throw aside. Now she is 20 months old and enjoys closing the eggs, choosing what would fit to close the eggs.

3. Wooden Hammer Case Toy : Oh boy, one of the best thing i bought only for 270/-. Prisha used to wake up ealry in the morning like 5 am. After she was a year old, i used to give her this, and go back to sleep. She would play with this for good 30 mins or so. Not only did she learn color sorting with this, but still plays with this in her own way. She never missed to map the correct balls in the correct case and pushes them inside the hole.

4. Shape sorter: I have couple of shape sorters for her. But the one shared below is the best one, as it has big blocks, easier for the kid to hold it and push it. She was around 9 months old when she could easily pick up and try to push it in the shape. She would randomly pick the shapes and try to put it inside and try till she succeeds and clap happily.

5. Plush Toys:  My mother got the crochet teddy bear from a local fair. She pretend plays with them, trying to make them sleep, feed them or take them to places along.

Post 1 year milestone

She has started to communicate with uh uh sound and pointing fingers at everything around. Shows her interest in everything around her. She will hand you over the things you ask her to from the table. She will get down of the bed and run around and come back to you asking to be lifted to bed. She can play shape sorter games and I love it when she does and claps. She liked playing with block as well. Carrying the little bag around her arms like a purse. She loves her swing and asks to be put in. She doesn't trouble me for drinking milk anymore. Either she will drink it or not. She wont play around for having milk in bits and pieces but for food, she still eats 1-2 bites and then leaves. She loves drinking water and throwing from mouth after taking sips after she's done. She will show interest in spicy food and turn away bland or just roti. After she is done eating, she want to smash the food in hand and throw it around. This shows she is done eating. I love how intelligent these 1 year olds can be.

She can point to her hands, legs, head and nose. Show come, twinkle twinkle action. Loves Jhonny Jhonny, baby shark and twinkle twinkle rhymes. She can point to papa, bhua, mausi, nana, nani and mamu, Sneha maasi. She can come and give u a hug if you ask for pyaari. She will just not open her mouth for brushing her teeth but takes every other thing in mouth. She likes dancing over the music, moving her shoulders. Super obsessed with rubber bands, and keeps them in mouth whenever found an opportunity. If she's crying in sleep, hand them to her, she will be calm. She sometimes keep rubber band in her mouth at night to sleep. Still wakes up 3-4 times and will remain awake for an hour or two if she has done potty or I couldn't attend her in time. Day naps are max 45 mins !

Deal with a crying baby

Infants cry only for five reasons:

  1. Hunger
  2. Too hot or cold
  3. Diaper change - before or after feed
  4. Gas
  5. Not well
How to soothe a crying baby:

Children Sleep Cycle

After 10 months, we can follow this 2-3-4 Pattern:

- The first nap starts at 2 hours from the time your baby wakes up.
- The 2nd nap starts 3 hours from the time nap 1 ends.
- Bedtime(so your bedtime routine starts earlier than this) is 4 hours from the time nap 2 ends.

Wake up : 7.00 am
Nap 1 : 9.00 am to 10.30am
Nap 2 : 1.30 pm to 3.30pm
Bedtime 7.30 pm

Pumping

Tips I received from lot of people:

1. Stop stressing.
2. Loads of skin to skin. Strip down to your bra and keep your bub in her diaper and hug her. Kiss her. Let her just lay on your chest. Multiple times a day when she is happy and active.
3. Try to keep latching. When she is well fed and active. And please go meet an LC immediately.
4. Drink 4 liters of water daily. And I mean actually 4 liters. Don't guess. Measure.
5. Pump on schedule. Not random times in the day.

* First switching to paced feeding and using slowest nipple teat, so mimic the milk flow as of breastmilk flow .

* lot of skin to skin . ( it works like a magic )

* Always trying to catch early hunger cues, because too hungry baby would not want to work on latch ( too hungry baby doesn’t want to work to get its food )

*Trying different nursing positions, my son wouldn’t latch in cradle position but would latch in football hold or laid back position , when not too hungry .

*Dreamfeeding.

* When I miss catching early hunger cues , I would sprinkle little expressed or formula milk on my nipple and try to latch baby ( of course he would cry his lungs out , but I would still try ). When this didn’t work , I would give him 30 ml of expressed or formula milk so he calms down a bit and try again .

* massaging breast and drinking some water just before feeding did help with milk flow .

*when my son latched and would unlatch soon due to slow letdown , I would try breast compression method so he keeps the latch on .

* most of the time I was too stressed , it was affecting my letdown ( my son was used to fastletdown at bottle , hence lazy to suck at breast ) , I started some relaxation exercises to calm myself down .

She can put garlic in milk boil and drink 2 glasses daily

Pumping output isn't an indicator of supply. Babies are more efficient in extracting milk than pump, even best pump can extract only 70% milk.

Weaning formula is very much possible. It will need lot of patience and determination. Looks like baby has bottle preference as milk drips from the bottle and baby is used to fast and easy flow of milk from bottle. At breast baby needs to put an efforts. Lot of skin to skin will help. She can try dream feeding. Switching to slowest flow nipple, milk. Shouldn't drip from the bottle if turn upside down and following paced feeding method.

Galact won't work unless breast are emptied at regular intervals. Plesee ask her to check if the flange size is correct, check #bsimflange

#bsimweaningoffformula #bsimweaningformula will be a good read

Try Zandu Shatavari powder supplement..it is increasing my milk supply like a miracle

Tell her to eat drumsticks, galact granule, lactare & drink lots of fluids jeera water,  milk etc.

I found breast compressions helped increase amount of expressed bm. Also, short term use of domperidone tablets helped increase milk supply to some extent by releasing prolactin. Its available over the counter in India by the name domstal
